Wikipedia - Liga de Expansión MX

The Liga de Expansión MX, officially known as Liga BBVA Expansión MX for sponsorship reasons, is a Mexican football league founded in 2020 as part of the Mexican Football Federation's "Stabilization Project", which has the primary objective of rescuing the financially troubled teams from the Ascenso MX and prevent the disappearance of a second-tier league in Mexico, for which there will be no promotion and relegation for six years. The project also attempts for Liga MX and former Ascenso MX teams to consolidate stable projects with strong administration, finances, and infrastructure.

History

On 20 February 2020, the presidents of the Liga MX clubs, the Ascenso MX clubs and Mexican Football Federation executives had a meeting, in which different topics were discussed with the intent of strengthening the two main leagues in the country.

On 26 June 2020, the league was officially presented, with the participation of 16 teams: Alebrijes de Oaxaca, Atlante, Atlético Morelia, Cancún, Celaya, Cimarrones de Sonora, Correcaminos UAT, Dorados de Sinaloa, Leones Negros UdeG, Mineros de Zacatecas, Tampico Madero, and Venados F.C. as Ascenso MX teams. Pumas Tabasco and Tapatío entered to the league as Liga MX affiliates. Finally, on 17 July 2020, Tepatitlán and Tlaxcala were invited as Liga Premier expansion teams.

On 22 May 2023, the Liga MX owners assembly approved a reform for the league that will be carried out in 2024. As a consequence of this reform, all the member teams of Liga MX must have a team in the Liga de Expansión MX, which will be made up of Under-23 footballers, who will compete together with the teams that were already part of the category, the new league will replace to Liga MX U–20 and will be called Expansión Sub–23.

**Mexiko - Liga de Expansión**

Liga de Expansión je profesionální fotbalová liga v Mexiku, která je druhou nejvyšší úrovní mexického fotbalového systému. Byla založena v roce 2020 jako nástupce Ascenso MX.

**Formát**

Liga se skládá z 17 týmů a hraje se systémem každý s každým. První čtyři týmy po základní části postupují do play-off, které rozhodne o vítězi turnaje. Vítěz ligy postoupí do nejvyšší mexické ligy Liga MX.

**Týmy**

Liga de Expansión se skládá z týmu, které patří klubům Liga MX a týmů z nezávislých klubů. Mezi významné kluby v lize patří:

* Atlante
* Celaya
* Cimarrones de Sonora
* Dorados de Sinaloa
* Mineros de Zacatecas

**Historie**

Liga de Expansión byla založena v roce 2020 jako náhrada za Ascenso MX, která byla zrušena kvůli finančním problémům. Liga byla původně plánována jako přechodová liga pro kluby, které nemohly splnit požadavky na hru v Liga MX.

V první sezóně vyhrál ligu tým Tepatitlán FC. Tým Alebrijes de Oaxaca získal v roce 2022 druhý titul.
